Individuals who contravene the ban on petro-based single-use plastic products stand to face a $100 000 fine if Minister of Maritime Affairs and Blue Economy Kirk Humphrey gets his way at Cabinet.
That would be double the amount proposed in the current legislation.
The minister suggested that yesterday while speaking to the Press after a tour of COT Holdings Limited, printery, at Newton Industrial Estate in Christ Church.
“. . . So for persons who have been importing products that seem to suggest they fit that which we allow under the new legislation then the warning from the Government will be clear; if you violated the legislation there are penalties associated with that,” warned the minister. (JS)
