Kingston – West Indies made further inroads into the Pakistan batting, taking three wickets, including Babar Azam and Azhar Ali, before tea in the first Test in Jamaica.

At the break, the Pakistanis were 123 for five in their first innings after they were sent in to bat on the rain-marred opening day of the match at Sabina Park with Fawad Alam not out on 17 and Faheem Ashraf not out on nine.

All three wickets that fell in an extended session after rain prompted an early lunch went to the Windies pace trio of Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales and Jason Holder after a period of resistance from Babar and Azhar with a stand of 47 for the third wicket.

Seales made the breakthrough, when he had Azhar caught at second slip by Holder for 17.

Roach followed up with the scalp of Babar, the Pakistan captain, caught behind for 30 in the next over, sinking the visitors to 68 for four in the first hour after the interval.

The Caribbean side met another period of resistance, when Mohammad Rizwan came to the crease and with unorthodox left-hander Fawad Alam carried Pakistan past the 100 mark before he was caught at square leg off Holder for 23.

The Test is the first in a series of two in the Jamaica capital and marks the start of the new round of the ICC World Test Championship for the two teams.

Summarised scores:

Pakistan 123 for five (Babar Azam 30, Mohammad Rizwan 23, Fawad Alam 17 not out, Azhar Ali 17, Imran Butt 11; Kemar Roach 2-35, Jayden Seales 2-35) vs West Indies.
