That is the message from Minister of Culture to bashment soca artistes. He spoke exclusively to SUNDAY SUN last night on the sidelines of the First Citizen’s Crop Over Opening Gala and Ceremonial Delivery Of The Last Canes at King George V Memorial Park, St Philip.

“I am happy to see the youth embracing the genre,” he said. “We are witnessing an evolution in the festival as many wouldn’t have imagined that sweet soca would have been so popular. We were comfortable with social commentary and some soca and then we introduced the sweet soca competition and it was embraced.

“Now bashment is being generated and we see a variety of music impacting Crop Over but while we support bashment we have to be mindful and careful that we hold the artistes to high standards as we do the others. . .” (NS)
