Weather a key factor in water ban

THE BARBADOS WATER AUTHORITY (BWA) is playing it by ear before making a final decision on whether to end the year-long moratorium on commercial water use.

The BWA’s new director of engineering, Charles Leslie, told the SUNDAY SUN there will be a meeting within a fortnight with senior officers from the Meteorological Department to get a clear picture on weather projections for the rest of 2017.

After that, a decision will be made on whether to keep the moratorium in place for at least another six months.

Instituted on March 1 last year, the prohibition was extended twice in 2016 due to persistent drought-like conditions.
