Flawless driving helped Edward Corbin to amass a total of 293 points and with it the overall Champion Driver’s title of the Barbados Auto Racing League (BARL) for 2010.
Corbin, driving the Automotive Art/Klark-Odio/Corbin’s Garage/JVM Signage/Valvoline Toyota Starlet, won all three races allotted to Group 2C, and also won that crown, while holding off strong challenges from arch-rival and former group champion Kenrick “Snappa” Husbands.
Corbin also carried off the HOTT FM Handicap Championship.
During BARL’s day/night event, Corbin was trailing then championship leader Jason Harewood in the Do-it-Best/Gaskin’s Garage/Castrol Toyota Starlet, but a loss by Harewood, from the breaking of the time bracket in Group 2B, led to Corbin’s success.
Harewood, however, still took the Group 2B crown with 278.5 points.
He told NATIONSPORTS that he was looking forward to next year’s action.
The other Group 2A title was taken by Stuart Knaggs in the God & Company Starlet, who turned in an excellent performance.
He ended with 208 points, beating last year’s champion Sean Russell, who was only five points adrift in the McCarthy’s Garage Honda Civic.
Kurt Thompson, in the NKM/Clothing/Bio Beauty Day Spa Honda Civic CRX, drove away with the title at stake in Group 3A.
Andre Waithe, in the Twist Mitsubishi Mirage, in an excellent display of late season form, grabbed the Group 3B crown, while Steve King took the Group 3C crown.
Barry Mayers, in the Chefette/Shell V-Power/Delaware Dispensary/
Illusion Graphics/Ignition Plus/M&M Racing Suzuki SX4, defied the odds and took Group 4A, while the experienced Doug Maloney was responsible for the Group 4B crown.
Motor cycle ace Ryan Beckles is the Unlimited Bike champion.
