The recent rise in gunplay and lawlessness resulting in a number of dead or injured civilians throughout Barbados has caused some concern to Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin.
Dottin in a telephone interview with the NATION yesterday revealed that tough measures will be put in place very soon to stem the rise in criminal instability in some neighbourhoods across the island.
The island’s top cop said the force had been meeting over the last few days in intense discussions, to map out the strategies they will be enforcing. He pointed out that they had recognized particularly during the latter part of 2010, that there had been an increase of violence in certain neighbourhoods.
This comes on the heels of the death of two young men who were both shot in the stomach in the wee hours of yesterday morning, at two separate parties and succumbed to their injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The Commissioner not wanting to reveal too much, said the full matter would be addressed at a Press Conference this week with media personnel.
He however noted that the force had already met with the Minister of Family Youth and Sport Stephen Lashley on medium terms solutions.
