An impressive unbeaten 155 by Jonathan Carter, his eighth ton at the Division 1 level and highest overall, was the backbone of Sagicor UWI’s best day of the season thus far.
When fading light ended play five overs early, the joint title holders were strongly placed on 327 for four from 62 overs against LIME. Floyd Reifer was also there at the close with an authoritative run-a-ball 73.
Carter entered the fray early, when UWI were in trouble at 12 for two after being put in. The talented left-handed Barbados player had so far occupied the crease for a shade under three hours, faced 203 balls and hit 17 spicy fours and three massive sixes.
Apart from a simple chance to Nikolai Charles at backward point when he was 13 off Davian Brancker, it was a very responsible knock by the 23-year-old resident of Belleplaine, St Andrew.
He reached the milestone with his 11th four, a pull through mid-wicket from off-spinner Anthony Morris. It took 231 minutes, with eleven fours from 159 balls.
Carter and Reifer have to date realized an enterprising unfinished stand of 163 for the fifth wicket, as UWI lost one wicket for 177 runs from 25 overs in the post-tea session which saw eight overs lost due to rain.
Reifer has smashed five fours and three sixes but was dropped just before the end by Nicholas Blackman off Charles.
Earlier after electing to field, Davian Brancker (two for 29) quickly removed Simon Naitram and Raymon Reifer in consecutive deliveries. Naitram was caught at forward short-leg and Reifer got an outside edge first ball to the ’keeper.
Carter and Miles Bascombe added 52 for the third  wicket at a fast clip until Bascombe was needlessly run for 38.
Carter also found a worthy partner in Romel Currency and they put on a valuable 100 for the fourth wicket. However, Currency was trapped lbw to Jeremy Marshall for 35 shortly after tea which was taken at 150 for three with Carter on 79.
