Winter gain

A Scandinavian charter bringing hundreds of Swedish tourists to the island, as well as greatly improving Caribbean visitor numbers, has bumped up what is turning out to be a “mixed winter tourist season” for hoteliers.
TUI Nordic, an airline originating in Sweden, is bringing more European visitors on two-week stays and is also promising to expand flights to Barbados, revealed Colin Jordan, president of the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association (BHTA).
Jordan, who was giving an update on the winter tourist season, which ends in April, said his colleagues were reporting a mixed bag for the crucial five-month period.
He said early reports showed mixed results, with “some properties reporting a strong winter and some with moderate winter results”.
