PAUL “THE SURFER” BOURNE and Roger “The Sheriff” Skeete head a list of 20 entries for today’s Full Throttle, the speed event organized by Motoring Club Barbados Inc.
To be contested from Luke Hill to Lamberts, St Peter, it is the penultimate event on the club’s calendar and expected to be a keenly contested affair as drivers seek to score maximum points in the race for the champion driver’s trophy.
The lead is currently held by Jamal Brathwaite who is also entered and will drive a Mitsubishi Mirage RS.
And it could be a straight fight for top honours between Skeete in the Subaru Impreza WRC S12 and Bourne in the Ford Focus WRC07, the only WRC drivers in the line-up.
Bourne should be the fresher of the two drivers, having finished second to Sean Gill in the Barbados Rally Club’s Gravel Sprint two weeks ago, while Skeete stayed indoors and watched the action.

But it is a tarmac event and the two will have to pay attention to the efforts of a group of hot two-wheel-drive competitors in the line-up, among them Josh Read in a Toyota Starlet, Daryl Clarke in a Honda Civic, Rhett Watson in a BMW M3, and Neil Corbin at the wheel of his Toyota Starlet.
And adding further depth to the level of competition expected over the long and twisting countryside course are Ralph White and Carlos Edwards in Toyota Starlets, Norman “Storming” Catwell in his Volkswagen Golf GTI, and the in-form Edward Corbin in the Toyota Corolla RunX.
Returning to action in Modified 7 after a layoff is David Brewster in the Peugeot 205GTi, while drivers such as Sean Field in the Peugeot 306 GTi6, Wayne Archer in the Peugeot 206 and the experienced St Elmo Cumberbatch in the BMW E36 are expected to make winning in their respective groups quite difficult.
Drivers will be allowed one practice and three timed runs in the event which is slated to start at 10 a.m.
Competitors are asked to assemble at Welchtown Plantation no later than 8:30 a.m. and any vehicles which were not scrutinized at the annual technical scrutineering should be brought by 8 a.m. to be scrutinized.
Clerk of the course is Trevor Mapp, who is assisted by David Stewart, while the steward for the event will be David Williams.
