Another bid at petition

The Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs (BARVEN) will make another attempt to deliver a petition to Parliament that will allow them to erect a monument to vending in Bridgetown today.
The unsuccessful attempt yesterday, according to a BARVEN release, was due to protocols that forbid the leaving of correspondence at Parliament while it is in session.
The release said the petition was to be given to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Opposition Leader Owen Arthur, Minister of Agriculture Dr David Estwick and City MP Patrick Todd.
The exercise is expected to continue today when the petition is delivered to the offices of the respective representatives.
Yesterday’s exercise was carried out by roving communications officer Robert Maloney and president Alister Alexander.
“The Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs believes that if you lift the bottom, all will be lifted but if you continue to lift only the top, the bottom will be left behind. The heights soared by business and political leaders are soared on the wings of the people and it is time to have monuments that honour the people. It is for this reason BARVEN is presenting this petition,” said the release. (JS)
