Barbadians honoured by Queen Elizabeth II in her Birthday Honours this year were presented with their insignia by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave at Government House last week.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Lady Belgrave and family and friends of the honourees were there to witness the Governor General dub Sir Wesley Winfield Hall, the only Knight among the group, and pin insignia on tthe others receiving awards.
The short morning ceremony, conducted in one of the stately rooms of Government House, was soon over, providing the opportunity for Sir Wesley to have light reminiscences with cricket colleagues like Barbados’ only living National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers, former fast bowler Charles Griffith and Rawle Brancker.
Agriculturist Senator Dr Frances Chandler’s mother Maureen Roach was there to see her daughter presented with the Order Of The British Empire, while Enid Blackman looked on proudly as Sir Elliott pinned the insignia of Member Of The Order Of The British Empire on her husband Collis.
It was also a proud occasion for June Millar, wife of Reverend Dr Oscar Millar OBE, Gloria Reid, wife of Dr George Reid CBE, Amarel Robinson, wife of Hensley Robinson OBE, and Celia Harding, wife of David Harding MBE and their families in attendance.
