BLABBER MOUT; BABSIE: Lawlessness ‘pon de roads mus’ stop

Date:

You got to be in a much better frame o’ min’ dan me right now, after de onnervin’ experience I had ’pon de road recently!
I was drivin’ ’long up Collymore Rock las’ Sundy evenin’, cool as evuh, mindin’ muh bizness when, sudden-so, wuh I should see come roarin’ down ’pon de opposite side, straight at muh, but a young fella weavin’ in an’ outta de cars ’pon he side, ridin’ ’e motto-cycle like a stunt rider. De back wheel o’ de cycle ’pon de road, while de front one way up in de air, an’ he carryin’-on widout a t’ought fuh anybody else. He pass so close dat I coulda almos’ reach out an’ touch ’e front wheel.
I cyahn tell yuh hummuch beats my heart miss. Nowadays, it pay yuh to say couple “Hail Marys” befo’ yuh lef’ home, faif, ’cause yuh never know wuh condition yuh might be in, when yuh reach back. Day or night, whenevuh dis lawless crowd roar by, de noise does lef yuh lim’less.
Add night-time car racin’ as anethuh nuisance fuh law-abidin’ citizens – various residential areas turnin’ into Bushy Park – an’ yuh wonder wuh  comin’ nex’. Anybody would believe de drivers got firs’ preference ’pon dese areas, racin’ one anethuh, revvin’ up an’ down an’ brekkin’-up people night rest. An’ don’ talk ’bout all de black smoke from de vehicles, pollutin’ de atmosphere an’ wreckin’ people healf.
Somebody in aut’ority ought to point out to dis onruly crowd dat duh en de owners o’ dese roads, but up to now, I en hearin’ one t’ing from de “powers dat be” ’pon de matter. Ef dat motto-cyclis’ dat had muh jumpin’ outta muh skin – an’ we got nuff mo’ like he –  coulda decide, jes-so, to do wuh he like, widout a t’ought ’bout anybody else usin’ de road, it only go to show how far t’ings gone. It mek muh wonder ef we got Laws ’pon de books to stop dis, but mebbee cyahn fin’ duh, ’cause de dus’mites tek over. Wuhevuh de reason, it en good enuff.
I been considerin’ ef I shun contack muh MP, an’ see ef he would tek muh complaints to de right quarters. In de “Silly Season”, MPs glad enuff to see we, ’stead o’ de ethuh way ’roun’, so it should be easy to fin’ ’e. Chile, t’ings heatin’ up!
Nowadays, all we hearin’ ’bout is Guvment good deeds over dese pas’ four years, an’ all de ethuh good t’ings duh plannin’ shortly.
De Sin John Polyclinic soon complete; women wid delinquent partners to get weekly money to help duh out – I din know duh had all dah extra money – a big new store, Cos-U-Less, ’pon de way (I trus’ de name mean exackly dat); good times – at las’ – comin’ fuh Al Barrack; an’. . . . Pity, elections don’ come mo’ of’en.
Wait! It jes’ hit muh. Duh should be needin’ traffick cops! I wonder ef I could get a pick, neh?   B’looka how Chris’mas hey a’ready, an’ December en even start yet.
Philomena move out de Turnin’ recently – she longin’ to get consider as a “big-up”, y’know – an’ now sorry enuff, ’cause de area she choose happen to be one o’ de playgroun’s fuh dem lawless “night riders”! She night res’ does get interrup’ summuch, dat daytime she so grumpy yuh could barely ax she a question.
But dah en de onlies’ reason she in dah nasty mood. Las’ week, she read CLICO Trinidad now facin’ investigations. So, my frien’ start smilin’ an’ wonderin’ ef dah gine happen hey too, but as she – an’ mos’ o’ we – know dat answer a’ready, de smile disappear, an’ now she so blue, she startin’ to turn purple! Po’ Philomena. Ef she en careful, she gine en’ right up in Jenkins. You watch!
Tek care o’ yuhself!
  Yuh frien’, Babsie.
