One title down, one more to go for the Eyrie Eagles.
Stephan Ottley scored 18 points and defending champions Barbados Community College wrapped up the regular season crown yesterday with a 68-51 home win over Queen’s College in the United Insurance Division 1 Schools’ Basketball Tournament.
The win was the BCC’s 13th in as many games and moved them within one victory of another perfect regular season record.
Kelan Phillips added 12 points while Jare Alleyne chipped in with 11 for the eight-time titlists, who will enter the Final Four unbeaten with a win against Combermere tomorrow.
Queen’s College’s Kirkley Carter led all scorers with 19 and Alejandro Boxhill scored 13.
At Crumpton Street, fourth seeds Harrison College prepared for an eventual semi-final showdown against the Eagles with a 52-33 win against the visiting Lodge School. Nicholai Burton had a game-high 13 points for the hosts, who improved to an 8-5 record while dropping Lodge to 2-11.
Second-seeded Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (10-3) also coasted to an easy win when they downed home team Foundation 66-48 behind Nicholas Rouse’s 15 points. Akeem Marshall and Dominic Jervis both scored 17 points for the hosts, who dropped to 2-10 – a half-game ahead of last-placed St Michael and Lodge.
At Martindales Road, Combermere survived a spirited effort from St Michael before downing the hosts 52-45 to warm up for their Final Four matchup with Polytechnic. Jimal Sing top-scored for Combermere (9-3) with 15 points while Derion Hurley led St Michael with 13.
Both semi-finals are slated for December 5 at the Wildey Gymnasium. (JM)
