Speaker of the House of Assembly, Michael Carrington has warned parliamentarians to clean up their act or face future sanctions.
Carrington issued the warning around 10:20 a.m., moments after the representative for Christ Church West William Duguid apologized to the Lower Chamber for his emotional outburst during last Tuesday’s debate on the value of summer camps organized by the Democratic Labour Party Government.
Carrington, who was not in the chair when the Opposition member’s comments were broadcast to a national audience, and eventually made their way to YouTube, said he had listened to the debate after Duguid’s behaviour was reported to him, and it was an embarrassing affair that all Members of Parliament should be ashamed of.
He also said that though Duguid had claimed he was provoked by Minister of Health Donville Inniss he [Carrington] had listened to excerpts of the debate, and had heard no such comments that could be determined to be provoking enough to cause such a reaction.
He did admit, however, that didn’t mean something wasn’t said by Inniss.
