BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Former deputy prime minister Sam Condor has filed an injunction in the High Court here seeking to prevent Attorney General Jason Hamilton from performing as a senator in the National Assembly.
Attorney Vincent Byron Jr, said he had filed the motion on Friday on behalf of Condor and the leader of the main opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM), Shawn Richards, seeking also to block the performance of the Increase in Senators Act.
Byron said the applicants are also seeking relief while the matter is being heard in court and that the defendants in the matter are Governor General Sir Edmund Lawrence, Prime Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas, Speaker of the House Curtis Martin and Hamilton.
Earlier this week, the Denzil Douglas government secured passage of the Senators Increase of Numbers Bill 2013 by an 8-7 margin with both Condor and dismissed senior Cabinet minister Dr. Timothy Harris publicly opposing the measure.
