A pioneer in the field of cardiology and medical education and a prominent attorney at law have been knighted in this year’s National Independence Honours.
Professor Dr Trevor Austin Hassell received the knighthood in recognition of his significant contribution to the medical profession, particularly in the area of cardiology, while Senator Trevor Carmichael was rewarded for his outstanding contribution to the financial services sector, international business law practice and his several exceptional, philanthropic and voluntary activities.
Responding to the news last night, Sir Trevor Hassell told the SATURDAY SUN:?“I am truly honoured by this award. As I reflect on it, it would be my hope that this award would serve as an inspiration to so many others who continue to strive to improve the health and the development of the people of the country.”
The 73-year-old also thanked his family, friends and colleagues who supported and assisted him through the years.
