MINISTER OF EDUCATION Ronald Jones has called for an improvement in the national mean of the Common Entrance Examination.
He made the call today at a media conference to announce the top performers in the annual examination which determines placement in secondary schools.
This year’s mean is 57.6 per cent, and while it is an increase over last year’s 55.4, it has fallen from 58.73 in 2012 and 60.92 in 2011.
Jones said 19 per cent of the 3 729 students scored 30 per cent or less in the examination, which would have lowered the mean.
Twenty-two students – 13 females and nine males – scored 100 per cent in Mathematics. Rheanna King of Eagle Hall, one of the Top Ten students, was the only one with a perfect score in English.
Seven children scored 99 per cent in English, including the top three students – Jamie-Lynn -Gibson of Charles F. Broome, Kacie Corbin of St Winifred’s and St Cyprian’s Yohance Lewis. (SAT/SO-H)
