A PRIMARY SCHOOL principal has called out some parents for a lack of involvement during their children’s tenure at school.
“At times this past year, the parental interest from some parents appeared to be non-existent,” Eleanor Brathwaite asserted while delivering the principal’s remarks at the St Matthew’s Primary School graduation.
It was held in the Hugh Springer Auditorium of Solidary House, Harmony Hall, St Michael this evening.
“What was noticeable to me was the fact that there are parents of some of these graduands who I saw for the first time since their child was admitted to the school, and some who I saw for the very first time on the evening of the Common Entrance meeting. After students spent seven or eight years here [and] I didn’t know some of their parents. This . . . is what I call parental irresponsibility to the maximum.”
She also told parents they needed to take the lead in raising their children, as opposed to the reverse.
Forty-seven students graduated during Wednesday evening’s ceremony – all of who gained entrance into a secondary school.
Edria Watson was the valedictorian and best overall student while Kaleb Forde was the most outstanding male student. (LW)
