Arthur not going back

Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur yesterday dismissed any possibility of him ever rejoining the Barbados Labour Party (BLP). Entering the House of Assembly as an independent member for the first time, Arthur said he felt “liberated from humiliation”.
“When I reach the stage where people can go on a (Barbados) Labour Party platform in St George and malign me and say I should go home; when the National Council of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) could have before it proposals about my expulsion, I don’t want to go through that – I have too much self-respect to allow myself to be humiliated.”
Arthur listed three reasons why he left the party, including his disenchantment with the party’s direction, being labelled a divisive force and being humiliated by some elements in the party.
“I’m not going to go into that again, I certainly will not,” he said.
Arthur, who resigned from the BLP just over a week ago, also reiterated that he had no faith or confidence in the BLP’s leadership under Opposition Leader Mia Mottley.
