THE MULTIPLE Sclerosis Society of Barbados is looking into whether certain local environmental factors have a role in the disease.
President Lasonta Corbin said they were noticing disturbing trends and were seeking answers.
“We’re quite surprised by the number of cases they are in Barbados and we discovered that quite a few of our members have either gone to the same school or lived in specific areas so we want to see if the incidents of the disease are higher in certain places,” she said.
Corbin was speaking to the DAILY NATION during the society’s annual beach picnic at Browne’s Beach, St Michael. Corbin said it was the third time they were at that beach and the third time personnel from the Barbados Coast Guard were there to assist them into the water.
The picnic is one of their two annual events – the other being their Christmas luncheon. In addition, Corbin said they had just completed their Canadian sponsored water tank project were tanks were installed for some of their members. (CA)
