Garbage collection improves

THE SANITATION SERVICE Authority (SSA) today reported some improvement in Barbados’ garbage situation, following complaints about slow collection and the pileup of household waste in parts of the island.

Public relations officer Carl “Alff” Padmore said SSA crews had been working “round the clock” to collect garbage and also to get more vehicles on the road.

However, he charged that the SSA’s collection problem had been compounded by an increase in bulk waste being put out by householders in a big summer cleanup in the midst of the hurricane season. (TY)
