SV Ruth sets sail

It has finally happened. After more than a decade, the Sailing Vessel (SV) Ruth has set sail.

The ship has been a landmark along Bay Street, The City, behind the old fish market for so long that many questioned whether it would ever set sail.

However, Ian Dash was not one of those doubters. The project manager for the Caribbean Sail Cargo Initiative and chief executive officer of SV Ruth Limited said the schooner was a long-time dream of his and he was not about to let that dream die, although he admitted even he was in a state of disbelief at the accomplishment.

“Many people have asked me how long we’ve been building this ship. I usually say that I’ve stopped counting after ten years but the truth is, I have been building her in my mind since I was a young boy. She has been my dream and so I say to young people today the struggle will be long and definitely real; there may be tears and unprecedented amounts of worry, stress and sleepless nights but if I can do it, you can do it too, so go after your dreams and one day soon you will get to the reality of that dream. I can’t believe this is actually happening, but it is happening right now,” he told the SUNDAY SUN. (CA)
