In the teensy weensy hours of Monday morning, my email inbox resembled a six-pack chiselled male bodybuilder. Minutes later after the article in this column appeared with the title Healing Mistress Of The Forest, that same inbox resembled a pregnant hippopotamus.
My mailbox illusory pregnancy occurred because it was continually stuffed by readers with enquires, comments, key locations, indigenous remedies and progressive ventures pertaining to silent doctor bamboo.
The picture which accompanied that article last week was of bamboo shoots which research revealed are good for treating high blood pressure. The discussions last week created a very positive impact on my thoughts which fashioned this article for further optimistic interactions.
Bambusa vulgaris is the scientific name for a species of bamboo found in the Caribbean and the literature revealed that bamboo is the fastest growing plant in the world. It grows up to five centimetres per hour and is an edible grass. Historically it was used in the diet of man thousands of years ago and treated coughs, removed excessive mucous, alleviated fever, improved intestinal health and reduced the risk of digestive disorders.
Its abortificant properties make it unsuitable for pregnant women. In the area of skin care, bambusa vulgaris may protect the skin especially against fungus and bacteria.
Further, I scrutinised the discussions on if Bambusa vulgaris is a good source/provider of organic silica. On the website planetherbs.com, silica is detailed as “a very common mineral element found everywhere on earth and for a long time, its role in human pathology was neglected”. They further asserted that “recently, Western researchers have been studying it closely and that it is one of the most important components of the connective tissue. Therefore, they are finally beginning to understand the consequences of its deficiency on health”.
Additionally, a longitudinal study conducted in Finland found that “a deficiency in silica could increase the risk of coronary problems”. The research further argued that “the elasticity of the arterial walls is essential to absorb the variations in blood pressure and that a supplement of silica is often necessary to restore normal tonicity to the arteries”.
It must be noted that research also revealed that bamboo extracts/suplements are excellent for those who are challenged with rheumatic diseases (arthrosis) and arterial illness (atherosclerosis).
In conclusion, featuring silent doctor bamboo is my New Year’s gift to readers. Your homework is to examine Barbadian bamboo to discover whether they resemble the skeletal portion of a leg with joints or the spine. Then consciously focus on bamboo wisdom for healing hypertension, cholesterol, arthritis and joint pain.
