POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING the death of a three-year-old girl on Friday after she was taken to hospital with several bruises about her body.

DAILY NATION investigations revealed that Leila Lewis had black and blue bruises to both of her hands, as well as what appeared to be old bruising on her chest, abdomen and shoulder.

She had been rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by her 31-year-old mother.

Police issued a statement yesterday indicating that investigations had commenced into the unnatural death of the child after 10 p.m.

It also revealed that Leila was seen two weeks ago at the hospital and discharged.

It is understood that the mother is claiming that the toddler sustained the injuries while jumping on a bed.
