Polytechnic, BCC left behind

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES, Cave Hill, may have expanded too quickly.

The opinion was sounded yesterday by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Senator Harry Husbands, as he pointed out that the majority of funding for tertiary education had been pumped into the university while other facilities did not get the same attention.

Addressing the St Michael West branch meeting of the Democratic Labour Party last evening, Husbands said the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) and the Barbados Community College had not expanded at the same rate.

Based on this and a lack of funds, he said Government had to put on hold plans to expand the northern campus of the polytechnic. (WILLCOMM)
