Roach, Dottin delight fans

THE RAIN once again disrupted the National Sports Council’s Sports In The Community Road Tennis Tournament at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Centre in Bush Hall on Sunday night but not before some of the masters entertained.

With the venue named after him, it was only fitting that the grandmaster Roach was the headliner as he put St Philip on the brink of the semi-finals by slicing up Tyrone “Picker” Jones of Christ Church 21-15, 21-8.

With the playfulness of a young lamb, 61-year-old Roach outclassed Jones and at times assumed some kung-fu like poses as he showed why he was once feared all over the island. With Rudy “National” Gill leading Peter “Lover Boy” Moore 21-16 and trailing 3-5 before the rains, a victory by Gill would see St Philip advancing when that match continued last night.
