UWI BLACKBIRDS soared to the top of the Digicel Premier League after completing an impressive 5-1 victory over Lumisol Technology Inc. Pinelands in the Digicel Premier League at the Barbados Football Association’s (BFA) Wildey Astroturf on Sunday night.

A hat-trick by Mario Harte paved the way for UWI’s triumph against winless Pinelands on a day when Neighbourhood Care Pharmacy Weymouth Wales kept their unbeaten record intact by fighting from behind to secure a 2-2 draw with Rendezvous and Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame and Mackeson Brittons Hill played to a 0-0 stalemate.

UWI’s third win in four matches carried them to nine points, one more than reigning champions BDFSP while Pinelands are still without a point.

The goal rush for UWI was started by Panamanian Jairo Lombardo, who scored for the second consecutive game in the 30th minute.
