Aziza ‘destined’ to be queen

ONE DAY THAT girl is going to be a winner.

Those prophetic words about 2016 Calypso Monarch Aziza Clarke from Anthony Sarge Sargeant, who has been working with the Junior Monarch competition since its inception in 1986, has come true on three occasions thus far.

He was there when Aziza, who sang as Li’l Az, took the eight to 12 title in the Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch title in 2007 and the 13 to 18 trophy in 2010, then early yesterday morning when one of his “children” took the coveted MQI/Mount Gay Pic-O-De-Crop title at Kensington Oval.

In taking the title, the 21-year-old queen also became the youngest competitor to win the calypso title and also the second woman, since Rita in 1988, to do so.
