Attack lacks firepower

FORMER TEST fast bowler Fidel Edwards says the West Indies’ attack lacks experience and firepower and will continue to struggle to get 20 wickets.

Now recovering from a foot injury he sustained in April while playing for Hampshire in England, Edwards, speaking with refreshing frankness, said he was very concerned about the state of West Indies cricket.

“It hurts to see the West Indies struggle like this,” he said. “I can’t be happy with the state of our cricket. As a bowler, I am shocked that we have an attack that not a single quickie has ever taken a five-wicket haul.

“Shannon [Gabriel] is leading the attack and has genuine pace, but he is still learning. There is no one for the young players to learn from. You can’t see 20 wickets coming. I have a lot of respect for Jason [Holder]and Carlos [Brathwaite] but I can’t see the West Indies getting 20 wickets if we are depending on them. (MK)
