Poultry concern

POULTRY PRODUCERS did not have much to crow about this Crop Over.

Many of them had their feathers ruffled because they had to compete for sales with imported poultry during the six-week national festival.

As a result, one producer said he might have to lay off some of his staff.

Anthony Spencer, chief executive officer (CEO) of Sunrise Chicks Inc., said it was not something he wanted to do but his business was under pressure from the imports.

He was speaking at press conference called by CEO of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, at the Grotto yesterday to address concerns about an article that appeared in the last SUNDAY SUN where a local producer was making a call to import poultry. (SB)
