FRIENDS OF CUBA from across the Caribbean were in Barbados last week for a series of activities commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 1976 Cubana bombing and their Barbadian colleagues laid out the red carpet in celebration of friendship and solidarity with the Cuban cause.

The Walcott Warner Theatre at the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination was the venue for the Barbados premiere of the Cuban documentary My Footsteps In Baragua, a film about the Barbadian and other Caribbean communities in Cuba, and the prize-winning drama Kangamba, a story set in Angola during the war of liberation.

Barbadian  actor and film producer Earl Maynard, artist Onkphra Wells and his wife Andrea of the National Cultural Foundation, David Comissiong of the Clement Payne Movement and Camila Valdes of the Cuban publishing house Casa de las Americas were among patrons seen mingling and enjoying Cuban specialties at the cocktail session afterwards.
