NUPW taking SSA gripe islandwide

THE NATIONAL UNION OF PUBLIC WORKERS (NUPW) wants to get its message on privatisation across to all Barbadians.

The country’s largest public sector trade union has embarked on a special public awareness campaign which president Akanni McDowall believes will properly educate Barbadians on the “danger” in the recent move by Government to subcontract the collection of garbage to four private sector companies.

The NUPW has printed thousands of flyers with information which explains some of the issues the staff of the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) are facing, and also the union’s take on Government’s move, which it earlier indicated is a back-door move to privatisation, one which it vehemently opposes.
