SEVERAL SCHOOLS from St John came together to pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of Independence today.

On the grounds of The Lodge School, St John’s Pimary, St Mark’s Primary, St Philip’s Primary, Mount Tabor and Codrington School students celebrated the occasion with an Independence parade of their own.

Minister of Youth and Culture Stephen Lashley, a former Lodge student, was the special dignitary present and he received the salute as the No.2 Cadet Company marched past.

Lashley also delivered a feature address to the children in which he implored them to remember the importance of Independence and to stick to the morals that had brought the country this far.

Following this, students of Mount Tabor offered a special tribute to the island as they rendered several traditional songs.

The event ended with the release of balloons and doves. (AD)
