WITH LESS THAN a week before the start of the Development Boxing Tournament, secretary of the Barbados Boxing Association Kathy Harper-Hall is making a last-minute appeal for sponsors to come on board.

At a press conference last week, Harper-Hall revealed that the association was still out of budget by $20 000. Since then they have been able to secure a $5 000 donation, but are still out by $15 000 to cover expenses and by an additional $17 000 to house the Barbadian athletes.

She said: “The $15 000 is to pay for the trophies, security and other small expenses. We also need $17 000 to house the local team. The visiting teams will be in the village, so it is only right that all the athletes are in one general area.

“The procedure is that normally the host team has to be in the village with the others. We cannot tell the Barbados boxers to stay home and when we are ready for them we will call you.” (RA)
