Health fund ‘in the works’

FACED WITH RISING health care costs, Government is working towards establishing a health insurance fund which would make special services more accessible and affordable.

This was revealed yesterday by Minister of Health John Boyce, who said a National Health Insurance Fund was already in the works.

Speaking at the Astor B. Watts Lunchtime Lecture yesterday, Boyce said the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance was trying to put together an alternative programme for health care finance.

The Minister said Government’s contribution to health care was around 55 per cent of the total bill, or $373 million of the $750 million spent annually. (RB)
