NEXT WEEK’S START of a new school year could be a rocky one.

With the health issues at the Combermere School still unresolved and grievances relating to staff members at the St Leonard’s School and the St Michael School boiling over, the head of the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) has signalled it has no intention of waiting another year for its grievances to be addressed.

And BSTU president Mary-Ann Redman has defended the union’s decision to call its members to a meeting on the eve of next week’s new term.

“Issues may come up at the end of one school term that you have asked to be addressed in the intervening period . . . and you may then have to take action at a time that happens to be the beginning of a term,” she said. (HLE)
