Joshua Kelly continues to deliver at the regional level.

Barbados’ best cyclist bagged bronze in last weekend’s time trial of the Caribbean Elite Road Race Championships in Martinique.

Competing on the 20k Riviere Salee circuit last Saturday, Kelly completed the ride in 31 minutes, 7.59 seconds to finish third in the sub-23 category of the time trial.

It’s the third medal in as many years at this level for the 21-year-old, who broke onto the scene two years ago by becoming the first Bajan to cop gold in the Caribbean Elite time trial event.

He followed it up with a third-place finish at last year’s time trial in Guadeloupe.

But this latest feat was just one part of an overall outstanding team performance that saw Kelly’s older brother Jesse finish fourth in the Elite category.

Jesse barely missed out on another medal by clocking 30:38.20 to place behind eventual winner Larry Lutin (29:18.46) of Guadeloupe, Martinique’s Yolan Sylvestre (30:28.27) and Lutin’s compatriot Cedric Locatin (30:32.20), who won the sub-23 category.

Bajan road race king Gregory Vanderpool also just missed out on a podium finish after placing fourth in the sub-23 division of the 115k road race.

Vanderpool clocked three hours, seven minutes and 45 seconds, while the younger Kelly was sixth in the same category with a time of 3:18.52.

The Dominican Republic accounted for the top four overall positions via Juan Jose Cueto Montero (3:03.48), Junior Marte Aguilera (3:03.48), Adderlyn Cruz Colon (3:04.13) and Adrian Santiago Nunez Hernandez (3:04.58). (JM)
