SOME SOUTH COAST RESIDENTS and businesses have spent thousands of dollars retrofitting their properties to prevent the frequent and foul sewage leaks in the area, but they are still happening.
This has led self-declared spokesman for residents, Adrian Donovan, to question whether the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) will compensate the individuals and companies as it was the BWA which advised them to make the changes.
Speaking on the Down To Brass Tacks call-in programme on Voice of Barbados 92.9 FM on Monday, Donovan directed this query to Patricia Inniss, manager of the BWA’s Waste Water Recovery Programme, who was a contributor on the show. He said he had been asked if they could submit a bill to the BWA for compensation for work done and invited Inniss to accompany him on a visit to those affected.
He identified several South Coast businesspeople as being among those who complied with advice to install grease traps on their properties to rectify the problems. Among those he listed were Frederick George of Lanterns Mall, owner of the Material Things Complex, Michael Allamby, and the owner of Gentle Breeze Apartments. (LK)
