The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Isaac which is expected to become a hurricane by Monday.

At 5 a.m. Sunday the system was located near 14.5N 38.1W or about 1 440 miles (2 300 kilometres) east of Barbados.

A generally westward motion with an increase in forward speed is expected during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the centre.

Based on current forecast track projections, Isaac is expected to move over the northern Lesser Antilles late Wednesday into Thursday.

However, it is too early at this stage to identify what likely impacts Barbados will experience as the center of system is projected to pass just to our north.

It may become necessary to place Barbados under a watch or warning as the system draws closer to the region.

The BMS will continue to closely monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Isaac and will update this information as it becomes necessary. (PR)
