Unheralded names seize spotlight

Unheralded trainers Roger Parravicino, rookie Rommel “Perkins” Lovell, apprentice jockey Eric Daniel along with four-year-old mounts Celestial Storm and the creole Carbon Copy, have thrust themselves into the limelight based on their telling impact in the just concluded Barbados Turf Club second racing season.

Mention the word trainer and Victor Cheeseman is the beacon but Parravicino, who won six races with 37.5 win per cent because of his lack in quantity, will find it hard to win any championship; but rest assured, he makes up for that by having quality horses.

Parravicino, who consistently has less than a handful of horses in any season, fielded Celestial Storm, Andale Julia, Awesome Swimmer (importeds) and San Pedro last season.

Yet the first three all entered the winners’ enclosure, headed by the classy Celestial Storm, who confirmed her status as the best sprinter in the island. (LY)
