The atmosphere at the Sol Esther Maynard Zone may be considered low key to that of the Sol Frank Blackman Zone, but the performances on track are certainly generating some heat at the National Stadium.

Distance runner Layla Haynes of Harrison College demanded attention once more when she made her mark in the Under-15 Girls 800 metres finishing with a record register of two minutes 26.76 seconds.

Christ Church Foundation’s Daesha Brathwaite also established a new time in the Under-17 Girls 1500 metres finishing in 5:09.44.

Savion Hoyte formerly of Fredrick Smith suited up in his new Lester Vaughan colours to make a convincing victory in the Under-17 Boys 1500 metres in 4:26.15.

CARIFTA gold medallist Shanice Hutson of the Coleridge & Parry School also made a new mark in the shot put when she threw 11.50 metres while Rowland Kirton-Browne of Lester Vaughan also met the record standard in that event when her throw measured a distance of 11.18 metres. (RG)
