Security Worry

The security threat posed by gunmen is more dire than the Government has indicated.

It’s so serious that the National Security Council, which oversees Barbados’ national security interests, took the unprecedented step to brief all parliamentarians – MPs as well as senators – on the problems being faced.

These briefings occurred on Monday, February 4, and Thursday, March 28, at Parliament buildings. The Governor General was separately briefed.

Modified briefings were also held with the Social Partnership – that is the trade unions and private sector – as well as with the heads of social agencies in education and welfare, charging them to formulate programmes to inform policies that would help combat the worrying increasing lawlessness.  (SP)
