The Barbados Light & Power Company says electricity was restored to all customers by 3 p.m.

Today’s outage, which affected customers in St Lucy, St Peter, St Philip and St Michael, St George and St John, was caused by fuel injection equipment issues affecting the generating units at Spring Garden, St Michael.

The company was short of generation capacity and implemented measures to balance electrical load and customer demand.

“First, our interruptible customers were asked to operate off-grid for the period. Secondly, the ‘load-sharing’ approach for our residential customers commenced from as early as 7 a.m. and then rotated to other areas at 1 p.m. to help stabilise the system,” Manager Communications & Government Relations, Jackie Marshall-Clarke, said in a media release.

“While some of the equipment faults have been repaired and customers restored, further work is in progress to complete the repairs, identify the root cause and prevent recurrence,” she added.

Barbados Light & Power apologised to customers and thanked members of staff who worked to solve the problem. (PR/SAT)
