Justice Minister Herbert Volney says he is ready to apologise to Chief Justice Ivor Archie if called upon to do so by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, or resign if he refuses.
In a telephone interview, Volney said he trusted the Prime Minister’s judgment.
On Sunday, Persad-Bissessar issued a media release describing as “unfortunate, unnecessary and over-enthu- siastic” statements made by Volney during the budget debate last Thursday in Parliament.
Persad-Bissessar had said the views expressed by Volney were his personal opinion and were in no way the official position of the Prime Minister and, by extension, her Government.
Shortly before her departure for New York, USA, yesterday, Persad-Bissessar again addressed the issue.
She said she had met with Volney and “there is a course of action he will be following and Justice Volney agreed that he will issue a statement”.
Volney was among the Cabinet ministers who were at the airport to see the Prime Minister off and told reporters he would address the media after Persad-Bissessar departed, but he left Piarco without saying anything. (Trinidad)
