St David’s and council join up
THE CHRIST CHURCH East Central Constituency Council and St David’s Anglican Church are teaming up to bring community programmes to the area.
Chairman of the council Orlando “Gabby” Scott said the agency saw the church as an important pillar in communities and therefore wanted to build relationships with it.
“We have been able to worship in most of the churches in the constituency and are developing a project with the New Testament Church of God,” he reported.
“[As for] the project with St David’s, it is threefold: one element involves information technology; one is about parenting workshops; and the last is classes for children sitting the 11-Plus [Common Entrance Examination].”
Scott said the plan was to begin the projects in either late May or June and the council was depending on the church to expand the initial work.
“We met with the church [leaders] last Tuesday and entered a formal agreement to build an alliance where the church will provide the expertise and we would provide the financing,” he disclosed.
“[In addition] they will train some trainers in the community so more people would be able to benefit from their expertise.”
Scott also reported that the council had organised successful clean-up campaigns in Vauxhall, Wotton and other areas of Christ Church.
It had also organised an HIV/AIDS seminar in collaboration with the HIV/AIDS Commission and the Bureau of Gender Affairs.
