Small hotels, reeling from the impact of the global recession, are crying out for financial help from the Government.
In particular they are looking for assistance with marketing of their properties, which they say are currently registering low occupancy.
The appeal was made yesterday by the chairman of the Intimate Hotels of Barbados (IHB), Jeff Kinch, who pointed out that while operating costs such as utilities were on the rise, their “annual marketing grant of $400 000 from Government” had already been exhausted.
“In these circumstances we need to be frugal in the selection of our marketing initiatives,” he told the annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. (CT)
