GOVERNOR OF THE Central Bank of Barbados, Dr Delisle Worrell, has been described as a law unto himself who should be fired.
This was stated by Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) spokesman on finance, Clyde Mascoll, in response to the bank’s Review Of The Barbados Economy For The First Nine Months Of 2011 released yesterday.
Mascoll slammed Worrell’s dismissal of the Barbados Statistical Service’s (BSS) findings that unemployment had risen to 12.1 per cent to the end of June by having the bank conduct its own survey. That study estimated unemployment to be 11.0 per cent.
“The BSS is the only agency in law, with the mandate to collect employment and unemployment statistics, which it has been doing since October 1975. It does so via a continuous household survey,” said Mascoll. (SP)
