Official funeral for Sir Marcus

The funeral service for Sir Marcus deLambert Jordan, one of this island’s most distinguished sons of the soil, and a former President of the Senate, will be held next Tuesday, October 25. He was 82 years old.
Sir Marcus will be afforded an official funeral, which will be held at the Hawthorne Methodist Church, in Worthing, Christ Church, at 3:00 p.m. There will be a private cremation. It is expected that acting Prime Minister, Ronald Jones, Chief Justice, Marston Gibson, members of Cabinet, other Members of Parliament and those in the Diplomatic Corps will be in attendance.
Books of Condolences will be open to the public at the East Wing of Parliament Buildings, on Monday, October 24, from10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Public viewing will be allowed only on the day of the service at the Hawthorne Methodist Church, from 1:30 p.m.
Sir Marcus’ distinguished career spanned more than six decades. He was born on March 2, 1929, the last of six children. He was awarded a knighthood in 2008 for his extraordinary and outstanding achievement and meritorious service to Barbados, particularly in the field of life insurance, for which he spent 52 years.
Sir Marcus was first appointed to the Upper House in 1975 and served as Deputy President of the Senate from September 1986 to May 1991. He acted as President from May 1991 to November 1992 and became President from November 1992 to June 1994
Sir Marcus was also an active member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed mentoring aspiring young businessmen.
In lieu of flowers, persons may make donations to the Hawthorne Methodist Church’s building fund. (BGIS)
