HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS were sensitized to the importance of human rights following a visit to various schools by members of the Youth For Human Rights movement yesterday.
Each school tour culminated with the presentation of human rights kits to the principal to be used as teaching tools in the classroom.
The delegation comprised of Fabian Burgess, Barbados’ youth delegate for next year’s United Nations Youth For Human Rights Summit; Reverend Michael Steele, a Barbados human rights ambassador; and Dustin McGahee, a human rights ambassador for the United States,
Steele, who went to the Human Rights Summit in 2009, said the teaching of human rights in schools could help children deal with bullying, appreciate and value diversity and have respect for all the basic things that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights had laid out. (JS)
