Hockey hope

If the vision of the International Hockey Federation’s (FIH) president becomes a reality, Barbados could turn into a regional hub for the sport.
While in Barbados last week visiting local sports officials, FIH president Leandro Negre said the island already had good infrastructure.
“We need Barbados as a regional hockey centre with a hockey academy here. You have a good hockey venue,” Negre said.
“This means the academy can provide services not only for Barbados but also for the neighbours regarding the promotion of umpires, the promotion of coaches, with seminars and courses and also officials, because we need officials – technical officials and judges.”
